Institut Kerjasama Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (IKIAM)
Malaysia International Institute of Islamic Cooperation (IKIAM) is very sad over recent news of widespread and continuous rapes, tortures, child abuses, killings and burnings of ethnic Rohingya villages around Maungdaw township in northern Rakhine, Myanmar since 10th. October 2016 by the Army and State Agencies. Some reports and studies appeared in international media also stated that the brutality has been there frequently since the 2012 tragedy. Hundred thousands of Rohingya have been displaced from their villages. Some of them are now in the IDP champs and others become refugees all over the world, including in Malaysia. Current event drives more Rohingya homeless, living on the run in fear and hunger as they are severely lack of food and medicine supplies for them.
The Government of Myanmar is clearly not able to curb these atrocities and therefore must be more actively pressured to stop the unrest and killings immediately and to provide food and safety to ethnic Rohingya. Myanmar government's failure to address these issues alone clearly shows a sign of weakness and actually Myanmar government needs the aid of the UN International Peacekeeping Team.
As such, IKIAM is humbly requesting the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) together with the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to act quickly in gathering and sending up 'UN INTERNATIONAL Peacekeepers' to Myanmar to help Myanmar government to stop the killing of Rohingya ethnic immediately. Thus international and local humanitarian groups could move into the conflict areas to provide some food and medicine to them. We are confident that subsequently diplomatic teams from various countries around the world including from ASEAN which include Malaysia shall be able to help the Government of Myanmar to end the conflict and to effectively implement structured programs to restore livelihoods and economic security as well as the citizenship rights of the ethnic Rohingya based on 'humanitarian POLICY' proclaimed today. Therefore, we hope in the next two weeks the UN INTERNATIONAL peacekeepers will be formed by the UN Secretary General and able to enter Myanmar and carry out their duties thereon.
